Elma Saiz, Spain’s Minister of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration, stated that the new regulations that go into effect this month will remove barriers that prevent foreign students from studying and working in Spain at the same time.

The minister further emphasized that the study permission will be renewed for the full training period because it is unthinkable that an unexpected irregularity might occur.

Saiz told el Desconcierto that there will be a fast-track so that after studies are finished, there is no need to return to the country of origin in order to work in Spain again. He also said that working and studying up to 30 hours a week will be compatible, even in fields unrelated to studies.

“The Spanish model is a beacon of light in terms of advancing reactionary waves that denigrate migration,” stated the Spanish Minister of Inclusion. In addition, she emphasized how emigration affects the economy.

According to data from Spain’s Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, the number of people in Spain who were officially jobless at the end of 2024 fell by 146,738 or 5.42 percent from the start of the year.

Prior to this, the ministry claimed that although there were 2,560,718 unemployed persons nationwide in December, the unemployment rate had decreased by 25,300.

Additionally, the Ministry reported that in December 2024, there were 42,700 more people registered with Spain’s Social Security system, compared to 21,344,487 people registered as working

In the past, Spain will continue to drive European development this year and in 2026, according to Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo.
